Kyudong Kwak Artistic Director

Kyudong Kwak was unanimously nominated to become the Artistic Director of the Las Vegas Ballet Company.

Kyudong Kwak was born in Daegu, Korea. He began his ballet training at an early age with the Korean National Ballet and the Universal Ballet. He received additional training at the Kirov Ballet Academy in Washington D.C. In 1989, he won the gold medal Korean Dance Competition and in 1992, he won the silver medal at the Dong-Ah dance Competition. In 1993, he was the first Asian guest principal dancer at the Kirov Ballet where he danced the role of Blue Bird in their production of the Sleeping Beauty. Kyudong danced with the Universal Ballet for eight years and with the Seoul Ballet Theatre for three years as principal dancer before joining Nevada Ballet Theatre in 1998, where he was principal dancer and Ballet Master. He is currently working a s a full-time faculty member at Dixie State University’s dance department.

He opened his own dance company, Kwak Ballet Academy where he teaches only ballet. He trains students who want to be professional dancers, and works with children and seniors looking for stretch and strengthening techniques.
His repertoire includes Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Giselle, Cinderella, Nutcracker, George Balanchine’s Serenade, Allegro Brilliant, Four temperaments, Somnambular and many other famous classical ballets. He has danced works by Roy Tobias, Oleg Vinogradov, Val Caniparoli, Bruce Marks, James Jeon, and Peter Anastos.


Non-Profit Status Awarded

On March 8th, the Las Vegas Ballet Company was awarded it’s non-profit status. Contributions to us are now tax deductible. We are also qualified to receive bequests, devices, transfers or gifts under this new status.

We started this process in the fall of 2009, fully realizing that this is an important step as we develop the ability to solicit contributions to our new company.
